Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important official said the vandalism made him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
